Saint Philip the Apostle Preschool and Child Care Center

725 Diamond Street

San Francisco, California 94114

POSITION:                Preschool Director and Administrator

Reports to:                 Pastor

Salary:                        $42K to $60K (pending experience)

Benefits:                     Generous benefits package

Work schedule:          M-F, Full time.  Occasional evenings and weekends as required.

All areas of development -social, emotional, motor and academic - are addressed through structured and non-structured activities. Indoor activities include play, circle time, art, music and movement, science and cooking. By recognizing each child’s individual learning techniques, children gain a sense of accomplishment for their successes, which fosters self confidence and self esteem.

At Saint Philip, our year round programs facilitate play by supporting self esteem, cognitive and language development.  Our learning centers are organized, labeled and accessible to children. Key experiences are central to young children’s development. They occur most often in active learning situations in which children have opportunities to make choices and decisions, manipulate materials, use language in personally meaningful ways, and receive appropriate adult support and guidance. Outdoor play is essential and part of our everyday schedule. All programs include a healthy snack.  Our goal: To build a community of motivated, secure, happy and respectful learners in an environment that supports children in the transition for home to school. To learn through active involvement and to become independent, responsible and confident.

Child Development Preschool:  Our school consists of four programs: 'Matisse Masters.' (Four afternoons per week) This is a transitional kindergarten program which offers an enriched curriculum designed for children 4 and 5 years old. With a variety of academics, our hands on activities include play as part of our High/Scope philosophy and is implemented by a credentialed teacher.  The late 5 year old child can also continue 'another year to grow' in our developmentally appropriate kindergarten readiness program as we investigate letter recognition, beginning sound and the connection  between print and language through the use of literature.  'Whirling van Goghs.' This is a full day program for children aged 3 to 5 years. Children work in open center time while developing key skills, with both child centered and teacher directed daily activities. We work on social skills, character building, language comprehension, fine motor development    including math readiness, and gross motor focus. Children have a rest time each day and must bring their own lunch.  'Mini Monet's.' This is a three morning per week program designed for children aged 3 and 4 years old. As in all of our programs, our thematic approach to learning is used to connect many subjects to the week and special day themes. This is incorporated in to a journey of discovery and books as they experience both indoor and outdoor play.  'Petite Picassos.'  This group offers activities developmentally appropriate for the 3 year old child. Singing, music and movement are a part of the 2 mornings a week curriculum. Child centered activities include art and science, play and story time while at our open exploration centers.  Small group activities allow children to work together to have fun at play and work on social skills.
