The Canadian Government, through its Embassy and Consulates in the
United States, supports research, conferences, teaching, and program
activity related to Canada and/or Canada-U.S. relations. Our
grant program
seeks to encourage comparative research and teaching, faculty exchanges,
student mobility, and collaboration between American and Canadian
researchers. We also seek to build stronger ties between American and
Canadian universities and colleges.
Research Grant Program
assists individual scholars or teams of scholars in writing an
article-length manuscript of publishable quality with a focus on Canada
or Canada-U.S. relations. Applications due: September 30, 2008.

Doctoral Student Research Award offers doctoral students an
opportunity to conduct part of their dissertation research in Canada.
The program is intended for students whose dissertations are related in
substantial part to the study of Canada. Applications due: October

Faculty Enrichment (Course Development) Program provides faculty
members an opportunity to develop or update a course with substantial
Canadian content that will be offered as part of their regular teaching

Conference Grant Program supports conferences that address important
and timely issues about Canada or Canada-U.S. relations. It is designed
to assist an institution in holding a conference and publishing the
resulting papers and proceedings in a scholarly fashion. Applications

North American Research Linkages Program is designed to facilitate
North American collaboration within the academic communities of Canada,
the U.S. and Mexico. It aims to foster the development of permanent
exchange networks by providing assistance to teams of researchers from
all three countries in order to organize seminars, workshops, or other
forms of research linkages. Applications due: May 1, 2008.

Program Enhancement Grant encourages scholarly inquiry and
multidisciplinary professional academic activities that contribute to
the development or expansion of a program dedicated to the study of

Outreach Grant Program encourages and supports training and resource
development that benefit K-12 teachers who teach about Canada, Canada-U.S.
relations, and/or Canada's role in the international community.

In 2007-08, the Canadian Studies Grant Program provided support to
faculty, researchers, and graduate students at 80 universities,
colleges, and institutions in 31 states. More than 100 projects were
funded on a wide range of topics and in many disciplines. Click

There are three scholarship available through
this program for students
pursuing degrees in early childhood education or in
a related field who meet the criteria for each
degree category below:
1. $1500 Scholarship for those
entering their second year of an associate’s
degree program.
2. $2500 Scholarship for those
entering their junior year in a bachelor’s
degree program.
3. $2500
Scholarship for those enrolled in a master’s
program interested in a teaching career or those in
a master’s program in Education, Educational
Leadership/Administration or related degree pursuing
a career as a director of a child care program.

The Shereen Paff Special Education Scholarship
The SFSU Child and Adolescent Development Program (CAD) is honored
to announce that Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Paff have generously endowed the
program with a scholarship fund in memory of their daughter,
Shereen. Shereen Paff earned a master’s degree in Early Childhood
Education in 1971 from San Francisco State University (SFSU) and
spent 25 years working and teaching in the field of Special
Education. She specialized in visually impaired children and
special education children in elementary schools and dedicated her
life to helping children. The Scholarship will be awarded on a
yearly basis and for Fall 2008 will be $2,000.
Academic Qualifications are:
?
As of Fall Semester 2008 will be either 1) a senior in CAD in
the Young Child and Family Concentration or 2) accepted into
the Master of Arts In Special Education at SFSU
?
Have a focus on Special Education with at least a 3.5 grade point
average in special education courses taken for the major
?
Have a minimum cumulative 3.5 grade point average
Community Involvement criteria:
?
Demonstrate evidence of outside community involvement, with emphasis
toward child or youth activity
?
Devoted time and energy toward providing a quality educational
experience for students with exceptional needs
Financial Need criteria:
?
Demonstrate financial need (through use of a financial aid
statement)
Character:
?
Demonstrate the ability to establish empathy and maintain
relationships with children
?
Possess the potential to be an outstanding educator by demonstrating
the qualities of inspirational and academic leadership.
Requirements
1.
Submit a completed application form (see next page).
2.
Submit 2 letters of support from SFSU professors, preferably
one in CAD and one from a Special Education faculty from whom you
have taken a course at SFSU. These letters should address your
academic ability and character.
3.
Attach financial aid statement (copy of SFSU form is fine).
4.
Attach current DARS.
5.
Attach current SFSU transcripts (unofficial okay).

2008 Panetta Congressional Internship Program
Faculty are encouraged to invite outstanding students to apply for
the 2008 Panetta Congressional Internship Program. Offered during the
fall semester, the program is open to students who are appointed by the
presidents of each of the 23 CSU campuses. Students majoring in any
subject are eligible. Interns gain hands-on experience by working in the
office of a U.S. Representative from the California delegation during
the fall semester. Applicants must be in their junior or senior year, or
in graduate standing by September, registered for fall 2008 and in good
academic standing. Applications require:
