BLACK LIVES MATTER
In our communities and across the nation, there has been a large and appropriate response in the seeking of justice for the death of George Floyd while in police custody and for the deaths of Ahmaud Arbery and Breonna Taylor (to name only a few). People are heartbroken and angry and are speaking up and taking action to oppose police violence, anti-Black racism, and the white supremacy that has plagued our nation for centuries. As a department, we are committed to action and solidarity in the demand for justice for all Black lives. At its heart, the CAD Department has a mission to advocate for social justice in all places, in all actions, at all times. We work alongside and support those who challenge racism. In our work with children, youth and families, CAD students, alumni, and faculty are on the front lines and positioned to support the necessary work to dismantle structural racism and end oppression. We acknowledge the anguish that so many are feeling - thank you for being who you are and know that we support you. If you have not already, please visit the SF State website for updates on Black Lives Matter at SF State and to learn more about our community resources and response. The Associate Students Board of Directors at SF State wrote a letter which includes resources for Black students and ways for non-black students to support Black communities during this time.
